Sustainable Aquaculture and Quality Seafood for All
This is the event for industry in the Asian Pacific Region as well from the global aquaculture fraternity to discuss recent industry developments.
Asian Pacific Aquaculture 2009 conference and trade show will be held at the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 3 to 6 November 2009. It is hosted by the Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture and Agro Based Industries. The conference and trade show is organized by the Asian Pacific Chapter of the World Aquaculture Society, Malaysia Fisheries Society and University Putra Malaysia. Uni President Vietnam is Gold Sponsor and Schering Plough Animal Health is health session sponsor.
Special industry session
This will be a local gathering of 150-200 farmers sponsored by the Department of Fisheries as well other regional participants. Translation services will be available. Presentations will be in marine fish, shrimp and freshwater fish production. It will convey practical information and solutions for current challenges facing industry in the region. At press time, the following presentations have been confirmed. The session is sponsored by Uni President Vietnam.The program for the morning session is as follows

- Speakers will be: Dato’ Junaidi Bin Che Ayub, Director General, Department of Fisheries Malaysia will talk on “Trends and prospects in Malaysian aquaculture”.
- Sena S. De Silva is the Director General of the Network of Aquaculture Centres in Asia-Pacific (NACA) based in Bangkok, Thailand. In his presentation on the “Aquaculture in Asia: Successes, Challenges and Way Forward”,
- John Sackton, Publisher of Seafood.com News will discuss ‘Raising the positive profile of aquaculture in major market’.
AT THE TRADE SHOW
With two more months to go, as at press time 83% of the 66 booth trade show has been confirmed. A preview of some companies at the tarde show is provided in issue September/October issue of AQUA CULTURE Asia Pacific some companies detailed their participation at the show.
Technical sessions
The conference will feature several concurrent session covering aspects in production, breeding and genetics, nutrition and health for the marine shrimp and tilapia and in hatchery, production and health in mollusc culture. Other sessions will be on Catfish, Cyprinids, Integrated Culture Systems, Recirculating Systems, Risk Management, Macrobrachium, Crabs and Lobsters, General Aquaculture, Seaweeds and Algae, Risk Management, Ornamentals, Aquatic Animal Health, Education and Training, Genetics in Aquaculture, Aquafeeds and Aquaponics.
MISE 2009
Simultaneously, the Department of Fisheries will organize the Malaysia International Seafood Exhibition which will showcase the seafood trade of Malaysia (www.dof.gov.my).
