Global Conference on Aquaculture 2010 – rescheduled for 22-25 SeptemberThis conference organized by FAO, NACA and the Kingdom of Thailand will run back to back with the 5th Session of the FAO Committee on Fisheries, Sub-Committee on Aquaculture. The final outcome of this conference will be the Consensus and Strategy document which will provide critical guidance for everyone with an interest in aquaculture – planners, investors, donors, technical assistance agencies, producers, civic organizations, community advocacy groups, and consumers – in their common efforts to attain the envisioned state of sustainable aquaculture development.
The objectives of the Conference are to:
- review the present status and trends in aquaculture development including an evaluation
- of the successes and failures in implementing the Bangkok Declaration and Strategy;
- identify and address emerging issues in aquaculture development;
- assess opportunities and challenges for future aquaculture development; and
- build consensus on the way forward to advance the agenda of aquaculture as a global,
- sustainable and competitive sector.
This conference was originally scheduled for June 2010 in Bangkok. The organisers have announced the following. “As you are probably aware, many countries have recently issued warnings against travel to Bangkok at this time due to the political unrest that is taking place. Sadly, we regret that circumstances compel us to postpone the conference and to move it to another venue. We sincerely regret the inconvenience this may cause, but the safety and comfort of participants is our priority. The conference has been rescheduled for 22-25 September 2010. It will now be held in Phuket, Thailand, at the Mövenpick Resort and Spa, Karon Beach”.

17th Annual Practical Short Course "Aquaculture Feed Extrusion, Nutrition and Feed ManagementA one-week Practical Short Course on Aquaculture Feed Extrusion, Nutrition and Feed Management will be presented on Sep. 26-Oct. 1st, 2010 at Texas A&M University by staff, industry representative and consultants. This program will cover information on designing new feed mills and selecting conveying, drying, grinding, conditioning and feed mixing equipment. Current practices for preparing full-fat soy meal processing; recycling fisheries by-products, raw animal products, and secondary resources; raw material, extrusion of floating, sinking, and high fat feeds; spraying and coating fats, digests and preservatives; use of encapsulated ingredients and preparation of premixes, nutritional requirements of warn water fish and shrimp, feed managements and least cost formulation are reviewed.
Practical demonstration of sinking, floating, and high fat aquafeed, are demonstrated on four major types of extruders - (dry, interrupted flights, single and twin screw), using various shaping dies. Other demonstrations include: vacuum coating and lab analysis of the raw material for extrusion. Reservations are accepted on a first-come basis.
