The Yield Lab Institute and The Yield Lab Asia Pacific, part of The Yield Lab global network of Venture Capital funds and Accelerator programs, are bringing you The Global Aquaculture Challenge.
The group offers 8 innovators the chance to participate in a non-residential and non-dilutive accelerator program. Successful applicants will receive relevant subject-matter expert mentoring and face off in front of potential investors to win cash and other prizes at the final pitch.
The invitation is open to innovators from industry, academia and public institutions:

  • Early-stage to late early-stage startups
  • Innovators in research organizations, public and private, NGOs
  • Innovators in seafood farming companies or seafood industry
  • Innovators in supply chain, compliance, and public policy
  • Technologists who have an application relevant to aquaculture Invitation

Globally, aquaculture desperately needs technology and data-driven solutions to improve the production, environment and supply chains that provide the world with the original protein… seafood. Aquaculture is the fastest growing segment of the food industry. If agriculture is the last trillion-dollar industry in need of technology innovation, then within this aquaculture is potentially the neediest recipient of investment dollars.

For Aquaculture to keep pace with the rapidly accelerating food industry needs, experts predict aquaculture will need to change beyond recognition within the next decade. FAO and scientists behind the EAT-Lancet report say aquaculture is one of the most efficient ways to supply more protein because fish and shellfish convert feed more efficiently than land-based animals.

The Challenge: Innovation Focus

If your technology or solution can significantly improve one or several of the following aspects of Aquaculture, then this global and non-dilutive accelerator program is designed for you! This Challenge provides Aquaculture Entrepreneurs with the chance to connect with the greater booming AgTech Investment community in any geography.

The Global Aquaculture Challenge would like to see more innovations in areas such as, and not limited to:

  • Water Management Solutions and Resource Usage in farming systems
  •  Supply Chain, Cold Chain and Traceability systems
  • Smallholder Farms’ economically viable systems
  • Tropical Species Diversity and Efficiency
  • Regenerative systems, Seaweed, Microalgae, Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture
  • Environmental Footprint Metrics
  • Recirculating Aquaculture Systems, Sensors, Monitoring and other systems (IoT, AI, ML)
  • Zootechnics, Animal Health, Disease Management, Feed and Nutrition
  • Public Policies including Compliance, Certification, Traceability

 The Program and Purpose

Innovations will be selected by aquaculture experts to participate in a world class non-residential 6-month Accelerator Program led by industry recognized Subject Matter Experts. The Challenge will culminate in a globally broadcast pitch webinar in October 2021, in front of hundreds of Investors and the entire Aquaculture Industry. A blue ribbon panel of judges will award prizes including one USD $100,000 grand prize and other cash and regional prizes.

Aquaculture and seafood are well behind other protein categories in efficiently stimulating, scaling and sustainably capitalizing innovations. Technology and data-driven solutions are desperately needed to improve the production, environment and supply chains. The “Global Aquaculture Challenge” is the latest of a series of successful non-dilutive open calls for innovation designed to stimulate specific AgTech areas in a holistic way. It is created and operated by a joint collaboration between The Yield Lab Institute (nonprofit arm of The Yield Lab global federation of Funds and Accelerators, with 53 AgTech global portfolio companies), and The Yield Lab Asia Pacific. At The Yield Lab, we have been making a measurable impact on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, as the first AgTech early stage Accelerator and Fund, by successfully nurturing and sustainably scaling impactful innovations globally in all aspects of Food and Agriculture.

Apply to the Global Aquaculture Challenge by the 31st of March 2021 and let’s sustainably transform Aquaculture Systems with Technology and Data!
