Shrimp Summit Broadens Free Virtual Access

The Center for Responsible Seafood (TCRS) expands free virtual access through the TCRS Online Community and encourages year-round idea sharing.

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; 19 July 2023: While Shrimp Summit attendees convene July 24-26, 2023 in Ho Chi Minh City, the TCRS Online Community remains a place to share ideas in responsible seafood year-round. Joining and exploring the valuable features of the Community by July 24 will provide another reward: a code for free virtual access to the Shrimp Summit. There is no cost to join, and existing members of the Community can also take advantage of free virtual Summit access.

“Our offers of free virtual access to aquaculture/seafood organizations and shrimp farmers who could not attend in person have been very popular,” says George Chamberlain, TCRS President and Summit Chair. “The Summit sessions are rich with critical information, so we want to extend free virtual access to as many people as possible.”

The TCRS Online Community is a growing community of peers dedicated to supporting regenerative seafood processes through knowledge sharing, thoughtful discussion groups, and unique content and podcasts only available in the Community. Before, during, and after the Summit, the Community also makes Summit content widely available to non-attendees. However, registering for virtual access to the Shrimp Summit is necessary to view all the sessions, live or on-demand.

“We are providing a central hub for efficient knowledge sharing within the responsible seafood movement,” says Chamberlain. “To accelerate progress, knowledge needs to be shared easily around the globe, and individuals who may not have been connected to the wider responsible seafood community now have a pathway to connection. They can contribute to and benefit from the discussions, resources, and relationships.”

Members will find overarching topics that are important to the responsible seafood movement, including Production Essentials, Environment, Animal Welfare, Global Production and Innovation, Fisheries Management, Water Quality Management, Disease Management, Feeds, Seafood and Human Nutrition, Seafood Processing, and Marketing. With a multitude of critical topics to discuss, the Community is designed to evolve to meet the needs of its members.

The nine Shrimp Summit session topics have dedicated discussion pages, where pressing challenges have been identified and potential solutions have been proposed. Resources such as videos, podcasts, courses, and papers are curated to make current knowledge easily accessible. Members are encouraged to post resources in the Community.

Podcasts and videos give insight into specific locations, farms, methods, and more hot topics from around the world. Current free courses offer training on animal welfare, water quality management, disease management, and seafood safety. Courses will continue to be added, and enrollees earn credentials upon the successful completion of courses.

“It is exciting to see the Community bringing people together to advance responsible seafood,” says Don Browne, TCRS Community Manager. “Members have received answers to questions about water quality issues in their ponds, shared thought-provoking articles to discuss, earned 872 credentials to date (out of 1,060 course enrollments), and engaged in many other ways. The far-reaching potential impacts of community learning and problem-solving are huge.”

There is no cost to join the TCRS Community, and the Community grows stronger with each new voice. Our recently modernized, user-friendly platform allows members to have faster access to knowledge sharing capabilities.

Join the TCRS Community, and be part of the movement to advance regenerative seafood.

The Center for Responsible Seafood (TCRS) envisions a world meeting the critical need for seafood through regenerative processes and responsible seafood production. In 2021, TCRS launched a global online community, e-learning program, and continuing professional development courses and certifications to address the needs of the growing and rapidly evolving seafood sector.
