As a result of a fire that occurred on July 29, 2024 at a BASF site in Ludwigshafen, Germany, BASF SE – also on behalf of its affected subsidiaries – declares force majeure with immediate effect and until further notice on deliveries of selected vitamin A, vitamin E and carotenoid products as well as certain flavorings. These are ionone, pyranol, DL-menthol, rose oxide, ethyl linalool, nerolidol and isophytol R. BASF is in close contact with its customers and informs them of news and developments regarding the delivery capacities of the affected products.

The fire occurred in a BASF plant that produces flavorings and precursors for the production of vitamin A, vitamin E and carotenoids. All employees who were slightly injured were able to leave the medical center on the evening of the incident. There was no contamination of the air, water or soil. BASF’s environmental measurement vehicles were on the move inside and outside the plant premises and were unable to detect any product deposits. The responsible authorities have been informed.

Unfortunately, the incident caused damage to the system. The system has been shut down and is in a safe condition.

Cleaning, inspection and repair work on the facility has begun.
