Innovafeed announces validation of its environmental data by the Global Feed LCA Institute (GFLI), a world’s reference database for the environmental footprint of animal feed ingredients.

A recognition confirming the robustness and environmental credibility of industrial-scale insect-based ingredients, contributing to the sustainable transition of food systems.

Innovafeed, a leader in the production of insect-based ingredients for pet food, animal feed and plant nutrition, announces the validation of the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of its products (“Branded Data*”) by the Global Feed LCA Institute (GFLI), an independent organization providing the world’s reference database for the animal feed ingredients industry.

This recognition confirms that Innovafeed’s LCA data, covering insect protein, oil, and frass (organic fertilizer), complies with GFLI’s rigorous methodology, aligned with international standards from the FAO (LEAP) and the European Union (PEF).

GFLI’s mission is to develop a global, harmonized database enabling credible, transparent, and comparable assessments of the environmental footprint of animal feed ingredients and animal products. The integration of Innovafeed’s data will improve the accuracy of environmental assessments for the insect sector and promote its role in the transition toward more sustainable livestock practices.

A key milestone for transparency and credibility in the insect protein sector
This validation represents a major step forward for the insect protein industry, demonstrating the scientific robustness and positive impact of our model in addressing climate and food system sustainability challenges. It positions insect-based ingredients as a viable and innovative solution to diversify protein sources and reduce pressure on natural resources.

The validated data will be integrated into the GFLI database during its next update scheduled for June 2026, strengthening Innovafeed’s contribution to the collective effort to continuously improve the environmental performance of animal nutrition worldwide.

“This major milestone, eagerly awaited by all our customers, provides tangible proof of the impact of Innovafeed’s model, a model designed to transform agri-food value chains and accelerate their transition toward more resilient and responsible systems.”

Maye Walraven, Chief Business Officer and Chief Impact Officer

“We are extremely proud to join this global database after nearly 18 months of a rigorous validation and review process. Beyond our internal impact communications, this recognition gives our model global, harmonized legitimacy across the entire industry.”
