VietShrimp Asia: A 10-Year Legacy, A Bold New Chapter with Aquaculture Vietnam
Over the past decade since its debut in 2016, Vietshrimp Aquaculture International Fair has established itself as a trusted platform and a vital bridge for innovation, attracting thousands of enterprises, experts, and policymakers across Vietnam’s fisheries value chain.

With its strong legacy and deep understanding of local business needs, VietShrimp has cemented its position as the leading shrimp and fisheries industry event in Vietnam. Aquaculture Vietnam 2026 and VietShrimp Asia 2026 extend a warm welcome to  esteemed partners, customers, visitors, and members of the media.

Vietnam’s Aquaculture Sector Strives Toward Sustainable Development

With more than 3,200km of coastline and favourable natural conditions, Vietnam holds tremendous potential for the development of its fisheries and aquaculture sectors. Abundant marine resources, together with diverse freshwater and brackish water environments, provide a strong foundation for aquaculture. Over the past years, aquaculture has risen to become one of the pillars of the national economy, not only contributing to food security but also driving export growth.

According to the Department of Fisheries, in the first six months of 2025, production and export performance (Jan–Jun 2025) included;
• Total fisheries output: ~4.5 million tonnes (+3.1% vs. 2024).
• Aquaculture output: 2.57 million tonnes (~60% of total).
• Export value: USD 5.25 billion (+19.5% year-on-year).
• Full-year 2025 forecast: USD 9–9.2 billion (still ~10% lower than 2024).
Key export products:
• Shrimp: USD 3.6–3.8 billion (largest share)
• Pangasius: ~USD 1.8 billion
• Tuna: USD 850–900 million
• Other aquatic products: nearly USD 3 billion

Vietnam’s fisheries exports still face notable challenges. Production is largely small-scale and fragmented, lacking strong value chain linkages. Increasingly strict international technical barriers, particularly regarding food safety and traceability, place significant pressure on Vietnam’s key exports such as shrimp and pangasius, weakening the country’s competitive advantage in global trade.

To ensure sustainable development and resilience, the aquaculture industry must focus on several key strategies.

  • Digital transformation and technological adoption: Enhance production efficiency through environmental monitoring systems, recirculating aquaculture technologies, and smart farming solutions to increase productivity while minimising environmental impact.
  • Food safety and traceability: Strengthen compliance with stringent international standards, particularly from the EU, the US, and Japan, by improving quality control and implementing end-to-end traceability systems.
  • Market diversification and brand value: Expand into new export destinations, reinforce promotion activities, and elevate the global image of Vietnam’s fisheries products.

These strategies align with Vietnam’s national fisheries development plans, including Decision 389/QĐ-TTg (2024) on the Protection and Exploitation of Aquatic Resources for 2021–2030, with a vision to 2050.
