Avanti Feeds begins commercial operations at a new feed plant in Bandapuram, Andhra Pradesh

In December, India’s Avanti Feeds Limited announced the operations at its new feed plant 
 situated at Bandapuram, Andhra Pradesh. The estimated investment cost was INR 125 crores (USD15.13 million). The company has expanded operations at its existing plant situated at Andhra Pradesh; through an additional capacity of 175,000 tonnes/year. The total production capacity (all units) of the company has been increased from 600,000 tonnes  to 775,000 tonnes/year.

Listed Avanti Feeds Ltd is India’s leading shrimp feed producer with more than 50% of the shrimp feed market share in 2022. Shrimp feed sales in 2021 was 540,000 tonnes in its 2021-2022 report, according to shrimpinsights. The Hyderabad-based company operates a supply chain and a farm-to-fork model using a vertically integrated infrastructure of aquaculture farms, feed mills, hatcheries and processing plants. The company also exports feed products to Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

In CNBC, the management said that farmers are considering a crop holiday in the first half of the calendar year 2023, which can hurt feed demand.  The company admitted to losing market share during the quarter, adding that it failed to capitalise on the strong demand for shrimp feed. State government pricing was also a major pullback.

Currently, its operate 5 shrimp and fish feed manufacturing units, all of which are BAP and ISO certified in Gopalapuram, Vemuluru, Kowur and Bandapuram in Andhra Pradesh and in Valsad, Gujarat.  The highly equipped testing labs ensure quality of feed and technical teams assist farmers across India with aquaculture practices, seed selection and seed quality analysis.  It has two shrimp processing and exports from India, under a JV with Thai Union. Avanti Feeds was founded by Alluri Venkateswara Rao on October 28, 1993.
