Zuridah Merican, Editor of Aqua Culture Asia Pacific & Chair of TARS 2026 said:

“We have developed an exciting program for TARS 2026 to help align the aquafeed industry with a rapidly changing aquaculture ecosystem—from oversupply and narrowing margins to disease outbreaks and the impacts of environmental and climate change. TARS aims to prepare the aquafeed industry for the future. If you are an aquaculture stakeholder, TARS is tailored for you. Join us in driving change.”

Feed Commodities & Aquafeeds.
Annually, TARS set the stage with the state of Industry presentations. This year it will be on Feed Commodities & Aquafeeds. Volatile feed commodity prices and supply chain disruptions have continued to pressure on feed formulators, feed millers, and the farmers they serve. Furthermore, there is the anticipated impact of El Niño on fishmeal supply. This session provides the latest market insights and explores the key issues shaping Asia’s aquafeed industry from four vantage points.

• Macro Feed Grains Outlook by Caleb Floss, Deputy Regional Director- Southeast Asia & Oceania, U.S. Grains & BioProducts Council, Malaysia
• Deep Dive into the Strategic Role of Marine Ingredients by Brett Glencross, Technical Director, IFFO, UK.
• Aquafeed Industry: Building Flexibility and Resilience by Piet Verstraete, Managing Director, 4SEA Investment & Technology Ltd, Thailand
• A SWOT on Indonesia’s aquafeed business by Haris Muhtadi, Deputy Commercial Director-Shrimp Business, De Heus Indonesia.

Future-Proofing Aquafeeds and Feed Sustainability
Technical presentations at TARS 2026 address these through precision nutrition – formulations based on digestible nutrients, balancing nutrients. The aim is to develop efficient feeds that meet industry needs and strive for the lowest feed cost per kilogram of weight gain. Functional feeds are the future, enhancing immunity, gut health, stress tolerance and resilience to diseases. Alternative ingredients need to match performance and cost. Smart feeding systems are the enablers for precise nutrient delivery, reducing waste and improving FCRs.

Sustainability is shaping the next generation of aquafeeds. LCA-optimised formulations, data-led feed management, and performance-enhancing technologies are becoming central to how the industry reduces environmental impact and prepares for future market demands.

Organisers also announced details for the Interactive Roundtable Breakout. Three groups are Shrimp Feed, Freshwater Fish Feed and Marine Fish Feed. They will collaborate on “Developing New Generation Aquafeeds & Innovations.” Photo: A roundtable exchange at TARS2025.

A Neutral Platform for Every Voice
Staying true to its inclusive format, where every voice matters, TARS brings together diverse perspectives to encourage collaboration, meaningful exchanges, and practical solutions for the aquafeed industry’s current and future challenges.

We also announce details for the Interactive Roundtable Breakout. All participants will join one of three groups Shrimp Feed, Freshwater Fish Feed and Marine Fish Feed. They will collaborate on “Developing New Generation Aquafeeds & Innovations.” Three group leaders collate the output and couple this with the group vision of new generation aquafeeds.

  • The Industry Dialogue with Next-Gen Farmers X Feedmillers – will field young farmers expressing their wishes for feeds and what feedmillers can deliver.
  • At Hard Talk, C- Suite Business Leaders will take a deep dive into what constitutes ‘fit for future’ feeds, namely what can we change in aquafeeds and feeding, and what current mindset do we to change to achieve our goals?
  • At each Q&A discussion panel, invited industry players give their take on challenges on solutions proposed.
  • The final round of discussions will focus on “How can we achieve sustainable feeds?”
