Aquaculture biotechnology company, Benchmark celebrates 20 years

Posted on

Benchmark, the aquaculture biotechnology company, today celebrates its 20th birthday. In 2000, Benchmark was set up to fulfill a common vision – to make animal food production more sustainable. Company’s founders were concerned with big issues facing animal food production including antimicrobial resistance, animal health and welfare, environmental impact and food safety.

It soon became evident that aquaculture was one of the most resource-efficient ways of producing
animal protein. This was an opportunity for Benchmark to help to shape a sustainable future of
an emerging industry.

Fast forward twenty years, Benchmark operates three core aquaculture business areas — genetics,
health and advanced nutrition, in more than 20 countries and employs over 800 people. CEO Trond Williksen says, “The development of Benchmark has truly been an exceptional journey. Over the years many things have changed, what has not changed is our mission, it remains the same – to drive sustainability in aquaculture”.

“Aquaculture is an industry for the future that will need to develop in a sustainable way. The next
decade is going to be an exciting one for Benchmark as we realise our potential and support our
partners to benefit from more holistic solutions to their challenges as farmers.”

“Today we celebrate and say thank you to our colleagues, customers and partners for your shared
belief in our vision, and supporting us over the last two decades. We look forward to the next 20!”
Williksen concludes. www.benchmarkplc.com
